Taco Bell Application To Be Heard Tonight

The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing tonight on an application to open a Taco Bell restaurant with a drive-through window on Washington Street, in the Home Depot Plaza. If approved, the old Friendly's building will be torn down, and a new Taco Bell erected.

Taco Bell does not need Commission approval to build a restaurant, but it requires a special exception for the drive-through. The developer has already received a variance from Zoning Board of Appeals, because the waiting lane for the cars is shorter than the minimum required.

The Planning office staff have recommended to the Commissioners that they consider requiring Taco Bell to include a bicycle rack near the front entrance.

The Planning and Zoning Meeting is at 7PM, in Council Chambers. Two other applications are also the subject of a Public Hearing: a zoning text amendment to ban nightclubs without restaurants, and the development of an entertainment museum on Newfield Street.
