CROP Walk Demonstrates Irony in City's Approach to Food Insecurity

On one end of Main Street Sunday, city police were issuing a summons to appear in court for a misdemeanor to a Wesleyan student who is a member of Food Not Bombs.

On the other end of Main Street, dozens gathered in Union Park for the annual CROP Hunger Walk, a statewide and national effort, to raise funds to help battle hunger.

On Sunday, the CROP walkers strode down man street despite the showers that dampened their route. CROP walks are organized by Church World Service, which provides services around the globe to those in need of nutrition, clean water and help during emergencies.

Yep, if this isn't the definition of irony, I don't know what is. It's too bad that the city prefers to throw away Food Not Bombs food and keep people hungry rather than let people willingly enjoy a community meal.

I heard the food that was confiscated this past Sunday was delicious. I wouldn't be surprised if the Health Inspector decided to take it and eat it himself. :)
