From the Middletown Police Department
-----------
On November 29, 2011 at approximately 1756 hrs. Middletown Police Officers and Detectives responded to Ghezzi’s Package Store at 970 Newfield St. as the store had been robbed at gunpoint.
There was one elderly female clerk present in the store when the robbery took place.
Two black men entered the store wearing “cloth” type masks and hooded sweatshirts concealing their identities. Both appeared to be slender approximately 5’5” in height.
One of the males displayed what was described as a black colored semi-automatic handgun. Both men began screaming at the clerk demanding money as she was behind the cash register.
The clerk was eventually able to open the register as one of the males reached in and removed an undisclosed amount of US currency. As the males were leaving one of them removed a bottle of liquor from the counter top an exited the store.
Both men fled out the store in an unknown direction.
A Middletown Police canine was called to the scene as a track of the suspects proceeded north and then ended abruptly.
Detectives are actively investigating the robbery.
Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is encouraged to contact the MPD Major Investigations Unit at 860-344-3240.

I am sorry to hear that Ghezzi's Grocery Store was robbed. I hope nobody was hurt.
What's changed in the last two weeks that has made Middletown criminals so much more brazen? First Walgreens and now Ghezzi's - hope Mayor Drew gets a handle on this before it gets worse. How's that search for new police chief going?
