Vintage Players to Perform Paycock

From the Vintage Players

Vintage Players presents Sean OCaseys Juno and the Paycock Thursday November 12, Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15 in the main auditorium of Congregation Adath Israel, 8 Broad Street in Middletown.

OCaseys play, first published and performed in 1924, follows the fortunes of the Boyle family, residents of a Dublin tenement, as they struggle to make ends meet and dreams come true. Captain Jack Boyle, the paycock, is a retired merchant sailor who spends his days drinking with his neighbor Joxer Daly while his wife Juno, so named because they met and married in the month of June, works to keep the family afloat, especially since their daughter Mary is on strike. Their son, Johnny, lives at home since losing his arm in the Irish War of Independence. The life of the family changes on the news of a bequest from the estate of a distant relative.

The cast, directed by Carolyn Kirsch, includes Gerry Matthews, Terri Klein, Nat Holmes, Nicole Sottile, Geoff Roelants, Richard Kamins, Lynne Fiducia, Jane McMillan, Cora Rodenhizer, John Hall, Paul Fiducia, Marie Dowley, Kevin OConnor and Phelim Donlon, former Theatre and Opera Minister of the Irish Arts Council. Bob Alexander will provide the music and providing production assistance will be Naomi Kamins (assistant director), Marian Katz (set design), Phelim Donlon, Cora Rodenhizer, Augusta Gonzalez, Peggy Welsh and Pat Murray. Special thanks to Neville Duffy and the Claddagh House in Higganum for its aid in creating the pub and providing the Guinness Stout.

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free but a donation of $10 is suggested with all proceeds to be allocated to the Congregation Adath Israel and a local non-profit arts organization (to be determined.)
