MxCC Hosts New 5k “Cap & Gown” Run and Walk and Free Kids’ Fun Run

The MxCC Foundation is hosting a new “Cap & Gown” 5K run and walk on Friday, May 20, on the Middlesex Community College campus in Middletown.   This fundraising event, which benefits the MxCC student scholarship fund, begins at 5:30 p.m. for the free Kids’ Fun Run and at 6 p.m. for the 5K run/walk. Registration and starting line is in the lower parking lot on the MxCC campus.  Early registration is taking place now and forms can be submitted anytime online, by mail or in person on race day (beginning at 4:30 p.m.).  Entry fees for the 5K run/walk range from $15 to $25, with $5 discounts available before May 6.  Additional discounts are offered for MxCC students and faculty.   Free tee shirts will be given to the first 200 registrants and prizes will be will be awarded for race times and for best “cap and gown” costume. 3rd Annual Rubber Chicken Run

The 3rd ODDFELLOWS RUBBER CHICKEN RUN 5K Cross Country Race will take place Thursday, August 15th at Mercy High School.

Funds raised for the race will help Oddfellows maintain its high quality theatrical programming for young people and support its generous scholarship awards, which allows us to never turn a child away for financial reasons.

Rubber Chicken Run

On Thursday, August 16 Oddfellows Playhouse will hold the 2nd Annual Rubber Chicken Run, a 5K Cross Country race on the grounds of Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill Estate and Mercy High School. The race is open to men and women, as well as a children’s ½ mile Fun Run for children ages 13 and under.  The Fun Run begins at 6 PM, and the 5K Cross Country race begins at 6:30 PM.  The family friendly event features food from local vendors and live music from The 9th Wave surf band.
 
The Rubber Chicken Run is a fundraiser to support the high quality performing arts programs offered at Oddfellows Playhouse as well as scholarships to provide access for students of all means.  The race is $20 per runner (age 14 and up) in advance, $25 per runner on the day of the race, and $75 per team of five runners.  Teams must register before the day of the race and send their registration materials in together.  Advanced registration closes Tuesday August 14th.  Parking is available at Mercy High School and the Wadsworth Mansion.

Oddfellows uses high quality arts programs, classes and performances to help young people ages 3 to 20 build self confidence and learn teamwork, cooperation and respect for others.  It serves 1,500 students a year from 40 different communities throughout Connecticut.

HUSBAND AND WIFE WIN BEST OVERALL IN 9th ANNUAL MxCC $CHOLARSHIP 5K

Brian Nelson and Lisa Nelson (pictured above, right), a husband-and-wife running “team” from Rockville, Conn., won the men’s and women’s titles in the ninth annual MxCC $cholarship 5K held Saturday, October 29. In winning the Overall Open Championship, Brian Nelson, 31, set a new record time for the course: 16 minutes, 32 seconds, smashing the previous record of 17:11 held by Brendan Atkin of Old Lyme.

The Nelsons were joined on the Middlesex Community College campus by hundreds of other runners and walkers, spectators and supporters. The race event raised more than $24,000, which supports student scholarships and programs at MxCC.

Winner from the MxCC faculty and staff was Matt Weber, professor of Fine Arts, of Unionville, Conn., with a time of 22:45. Awards were also given to the top winners in the following categories:

For the first time, the race included a “pace car,” sponsored by Liberty Bank. The vehicle, a Jeep Liberty, was driven by Garrett Birdsey, MxCC Foundation treasurer and manager of Liberty Bank’s Higganum office. Birdsey ceremoniously started the race in the Jeep ahead of the runners, and set the pace for all competitors. The course followed a scenic out-and-back route, with some small rolling hills along the way, and a downhill finish in the reservoir area surrounding the community college campus.

9TH ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP 5K RACE AND KIDS’ FUN RUN HELD AT MXCC ON OCTOBER 29

The ninth annual MxCC Foundation Scholarship 5K Road Race for walkers and runners will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Middlesex Community College, 100 Training Hill Rd., Middletown. There will be a “Kids’ Fun Run” at 9:30 a.m., with medals for first place boy and girl, and ribbons for all other participants. Runners and walkers may register now by accessing forms on the Events Page at http://www.mxccfoundation.org, or on race day beginning at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $5 for children and $18 for adults ($15 if registered before October 14). Proceeds from the race benefit student scholarships and programs at MxCC. Post-race activities include a raffle prize drawing, performance by the Pratt & Whitney Screamin’ Eagles Jazz Band, as well as an awards ceremony with light food and refreshments. Rubber Chicken Results

The 1st Annual Rubber Chicken 5K Cross Country Race to raise fun and funds for Oddfellows Playhouse drew nearly 200 runners to the grounds of the Wadsworth Mansion and raised $9,100 for Oddfellows Playhouse. Thank you to everyone that came out and participated. Mayor Sebastian Guiliano welcomed runners and was spotted cheering on runners along with Senator Len Suzio. Just some familiar local runners in the crowd include Michiel Wackers, Lucy McMillan, Bruce Macleod and Suzanne Javorski. Mercy High School coach John Hastings started the race off.

Top Race finishers on the men's side were Xavier High School alum Chris Zablocki, 23 from Essex (15:57), Wesleyan alum Marc Robaczynski, 36 from New Hartford (16:13) and Tom Holowka, 26 from New Haven (17:09). On the women's side the top finishers were Brittany Heninger, 22 from Bristol (19:47), Alyssa Selmquist, 20 from Northford (21:34) and Jaime Seligmann of Newington (23:18).

The team competition was heated, with over 10 teams registered. The top men's team was a young group of Blue Dragons from Middletown - which may mean good things for the coming cross country season. The women's team was a group of Young Grasshoppers. The top coed team was comprised of Marc Robaczynski, Brittany Heninger, David Ricciuti, Will Graustein,
Peter Hawley. The winners all received rubber chickens, second place finishers received a delicious rotisserie chicken courteousey of race sponsor Price Chopper.
