MxCC Hosts New 5k “Cap & Gown” Run and Walk and Free Kids’ Fun Run

The MxCC Foundation is hosting a new “Cap & Gown” 5K run and walk on Friday, May 20, on the Middlesex Community College campus in Middletown.   This fundraising event, which benefits the MxCC student scholarship fund, begins at 5:30 p.m. for the free Kids’ Fun Run and at 6 p.m. for the 5K run/walk. Registration and starting line is in the lower parking lot on the MxCC campus.  Early registration is taking place now and forms can be submitted anytime online, by mail or in person on race day (beginning at 4:30 p.m.).  Entry fees for the 5K run/walk range from $15 to $25, with $5 discounts available before May 6.  Additional discounts are offered for MxCC students and faculty.   Free tee shirts will be given to the first 200 registrants and prizes will be will be awarded for race times and for best “cap and gown” costume. MxCC Foundation Announces Results for 11th Annual Scholarship Road Race

The results are in for the 11th Annual Scholarship Road Race, held on Saturday, October 25 at Middlesex Community College. The 10k race champions were Tom Liedke of Bristol (44:06) and Gradys Alcedo of Wallingford (52:11), and the 5k race champions were Stephen Frayne of Woodbury (18:38) and Emily Sienna of (21:30). These are the new record times for these courses which were completely redesigned for this year.

“It was a picture-perfect day for runners and walkers with lots of sunshine and mild temperatures, helping bring in so many participants,” said Jay Keiser, chairperson of the MxCC Scholarship Race Committee. “Each year this race gets more popular, more challenging and more rewarding. We are thankful for our sponsors and supporters and look forward to seeing everyone return next fall.”

Middlesex Community College Foundation Hosts Third Annual Red Moon Fest

On September 6, the Middlesex Community College Foundation will host its third annual Red Moon Fest. The Red Moon Fest is an evening celebration that benefits Middlesex Community College students and programs. The event includes a live and silent auction, a performance by a local jazz trio, and features an assortment of wine, beer, savories, and sweets. This year, the Red Moon Fest is also a celebration of the Health and Life Science Initiative at the College. This new initiative is a federally-funded program to expand health and life science learning and training opportunities for MxCC students. Portland residents Dr. Virginia Nunez Olson and Dr. Robert Olson, co-owners of Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital, will serve as 2014 honorary co-chairs. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be dedicated to enhancing this new program.

Live auction items include a seven-night vacation at the Beso del Sol Resort in Florida (airfare not included), seven-nights at a Cape Cod resort, a long weekend in Maine during peak foliage season, a South African Safari (airfare not included), and two opportunities to name a street on the MxCC campus for one year.

The silent auction features a variety of items donated by local businesses including restaurant gift cards, artwork, hotel stays, museum visits, and tickets to sporting events and theater performances. Additional items will be added to both auctions through the event date.
