What: Students for a Just and Stable Future (SJSF), a student coalition, will kick off a weeklong campaign of sleeping out to declare independence from dirty energy and call of Connecticut policy makers to push the state to 100% clean energy in ten years.

Why: This is the beginning of a growing student movement, being built up on campuses around Connecticut and across the region. Clean energy and climate change are still pressing issues for students and youth, who are fighting to ensure a just and stable future for the state and nation. This sleep-out campaign is the coalition’s first major event, and will bring scores of students out of their dorms for the week leading up to Earth Day to show their continued concern about dirty energy.
Thursday’s event will include addresses from coalition organizers and from state representative Matt Lesser, speaking to the importance of forging ahead to a clean energy future. Activists will also be setting up their tents and a symbolic wind turbine to launch the event.
Who: Students for a Just and Stable Future (SJSF) is a new clean energy coalition of students from Connecticut and across the New England, formed to ensure that Connecticut moves to power that will free it from dangerous sources of energy and put it on track to meet emissions cuts needed to prevent the worst aspects of climate change from burdening the state and the planet.
SJSF is calling for Connecticut policymakers to embrace the state’s role as a civic and environmental leader and move to getting 100% of its electricity from clean sources in ten years.

Matt Lesser should turn his attention to balancing the State budget, unemployment,and bringing business BACK to Connecticut.
There is enough to do already without engaging in the Quixotic crusades of the Left.

As a member of the Energy Committee, I am working to pass legislation to promote energy independence, create green jobs and lower Connecticut's sky-high electric rates. As you probably know, our high energy costs are one of the leading problems cited by business in this state and something I intend to talk about this afternoon.
