The monthly report from the Middletown Planning, Conservation and Development Department shows strong signs that the local economy is suffering from the overall financial climate.
The local unemployment rate jumped from 7.5% to 9.1% (24,812 employed and 2,487 unemployed). Still, the total number of job postings, from a variety of posts increased from 452 in January to 538 in February. The strongest need for jobs is in the hospital/healthcare market.
The housing market remains weak with up 89%, with 28 foreclosures in January, and 58 in February. Many of those foreclosures have been initiated by the City of Middletown.
