Join us for this exciting Science Sunday Series: A Hidden World! Each month we'll meet on the 3rd Sunday to learn about the secret world of insects found in Connecticut forests and parks. Be a lifelong learner with us as ecologist and Wesleyan University PhD student, Rob Clark, leads an indoor presentation followed by an outdoor scientific exploration in Highlawn Forest. This series is free and open to the public. Participants are welcome to attend all or individual classes.

Welcome to Meet Your Greens--Middlesex County's monthly green drinks happy-hour network providing opportunities to make connections and exchange news about environmental issues in Middlesex County. Based on the popular Green Drinks in CT and nationwide, this informal gathering of people drawn from the community, nonprofit groups and the business world offers time to brainstorm ideas and plant seeds for collaboration. Pesticide Ban at Schools

As of this coming Thursday (july 15th), CT Public Act 09-56 goes into effect. This new law establishes that all schools in Connecticut, both public and private, with grades K-8, ban lawn-care pesticides on both their school grounds as well as on their playing fields as of July 1, 2010. It is important that all schools with grades K-8 be aware of this new law as well as the parents who have children who attend these schools.

Circus for a Fragile Planet Returns to Town

One circus is thankfully over and it's already time for another. (This one will be more fun and cause less strain on the blood pressure.)

ARTFARM presents "Circus for a Fragile Planet" this Friday and Saturday (November 7 & 8) at 7 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 24 Old Church Street.

The is the new, streamlined, version of the educational "clown" troupe. Artistic Director Dic Wheeler welcomes new member Joel Melendez to work and play alongside Maegan Fuller and Eve Pappalardo (pictured.) Melendez is a veteran performer, one-half of the Connecticut-based duo Matica (along with Heidi Kirchofer) and teaches circus arts at the Children's Circus of Middletown.

Though the troupe is different, the story remains the same. The performers utilize acrobatics, physical comedy, juggling, unicycling and more, not only to entertain but also to remind audiences that we must be careful with our natural resources, be smarter in how we use the earth, and be vigilant in making sure that the situation (global warming, wide-spread destruction of arable land, etc) does not get worse. Sounds like a "heavy"topic; it is, yet the performers handle the story in a light-hearted manner.
