MHS Learn to Row Day, Wednesday

Learn To Row Day at Middletown Crew Boathouse
Wednesday, June 8, 2011
5-8pm

The MHS Boathouse is located on Harbor Drive near the Mattabasett Canoe Club Restaurant (the old Harbor Park Restaurant)

The Middletown High School rowing team is hosting their annual Learn To Row Day on Wednesday, June 8th from 5-8pm at the boathouse on the Connecticut River in Middletown.   The event is open to the public and only requires the desire to learn and to be exposed to this wonderful sport that takes advantage of one of Middletown's finest resources - the Connecticut River.  We welcome anyone from the age of 14 and up.  Anyone under the age of 18 needs parent permission.  Permission slips will be available at the event.

The goal of the event is to increase the exposure of the sport of crew in Middletown and beyond.  There are Learn To Row events taking place at boathouses across the country.  Specifically, the team hopes to recruit students that will be attending Middletown High School in the fall and entice these students to row.  Also, for the first time this year, the event is open to the public for 2 reasons; to garner additional support for the high school team and to encourage people that are interested to join the Recreational Rowing Program offered by Middletown Parks and Recreations Department.

The Park and Rec program is open to anyone from the age of 14 and up.  The program is divided into a youth group and an adult group.  The beauty of rowing is that it works for all ages.  Current participants are in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and yes, even in their 70's.  The summer rowing program runs from June 13 - July 28 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm.  Further information and registrations forms are available in the current Spring/Summer brochure from Middletown Park and Recreation Department.   If interested, either stop in at the Recreation Department at 100 Riverview Center to register or access the brochure on the city's web site:
