Search for New Police Chief May Be Temporarily Derailed

As a result of substantive leaks about deliberations by a review panel considering candidates for Chief of Police, the findings of the current panel may be abandoned, and the announcements of a top candidate postponed.

"Withing two days of the panel's final deliberation, people outside of the panel were repeating the specific details of the deliberation," Mayor Sebastian Giuliano said.  "These were deliberations that were held in the strictest confidence."

Giuliano said he is unsure of what the next steps would be, but indicated he could not let the results of the current deliberations stand.

"I can't let it go because then the concept of confidentiality would have no meaning," Giuliano said.

Giuliano said his inclination is to seat another panel to reconsider the same delegates, but that he has not come to a final decision on the process going forward.

The Mayor has truly lost his mind.

Please tell me that the mayor was joking when he says he is concerned about confidentiality? Since when?

It's cheaper and faster to convene a new committee, especially if there is a chance of a lawsuit. But make sure the new one is just as diverse !!

Just do it.

As a member of the committee, I am disturbed that we have to scrap the findings. The panel members took a lot of time to carefully and thoughtfully participate and to have our comments dismissed is a waste of all of our time. I don't know what happened or why, but one person's leak shouldn't cause all of our opinions to be invalidated.

The first panel was a good one made up of strong community leaders and I would just rather see the mayor move forward with a recommendation so that we don't have to hold the process up any longer.

How much should these candidates be asked to go through. Now they have to be interviewed again?
