The Police Department issued 264 citations to violators of Connecticut's distracted-driving law as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's national U Drive. U Text. U Pay. campaign.
The campaign was held from April 2 to April 30 during which officers in unmarked vehicles or in spotter positions were assigned to look for and stop drivers that were driving distracted.
Connecticut's distracted-driving law provides that no person shall operate a motor vehicle upon a highway while using a hand-held mobile telephone to engage in a call or while using a mobile electronic device. An operator of a motor vehicle, who types, sends or reads a text message with a hand-held mobile telephone or mobile electronic device while operating a motor vehicle shall be in violation, and subject to a $150 fine.
Don’t put yourself or others in harms way, the call or text can wait.

Maybe they should follow the rules of that same law themselves to set an example. That'd be unique!
YESSSSS!!! It's about time!
All these citations, and yet in a 36 hour window we have had someone run a red light and hit a firetruck, another person rearend a police vehicle, and a serious motorcycle accident just across the bridge in Portland. While not all 3 were specifically caused by distracted driving, it still brings to light that people need to PAY ATTENTION when they are driving. Put down the phones, turn down the music, ignore the distractions, and if you are impaired/intoxicated DONT GET BEHIND THE WHEEL!
What about speeding?
