For the past few years, the summer film series has been a bright spot in Middletown's off season. Every Tuesday night, a classic film is shown at the beautiful new Wesleyan cinema. The highlight of the evening is always the pre-film lecture, usually a blend of academia and celebrity gossip, delivered by faculty from Wesleyan's film department or sometimes a Hollywood insider from the film itself. And the crowd is fun.
Maybe it's just because I spent a good chunk of my teenage years devouring the biographies of the stars of Hollywood's golden age, but I am SO excited that Wesleyan has chosen the movies of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall as this year's theme.
Come see Bogie and Bacall this Tuesday in a showing of 1946's The Big Sleep. The entertaining and knowledgable Mark Longnecker will deliver the talk, and the 7:30 pm showing is free and open to the public. The room gets packed, so come early. The Goldsmith Family Cinema is in the Film Studies building on Washington Terrace, just off Veteran's Green. See you at the movies!
