Last year, 235 penguins took the plunge and raised $50,000 for Special Olympics athletes and programs. The Middleton Penguin Plunge is one of ten Plunges for Special Olympics Connecticut that are scheduled to happen across the state this year, giving many the chance to jump into the chilly water in bathing suits, team jerseys or creative costumes for a good cause.

Special Olympics Connecticut provides year-round sports training and competitions for more than 12,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities and Unified Partners (their teammates without disabilities). For more information on how to donate please visit www.soct.org

No Blah Bras For Cancer Fundraiser

There are probably a lot of bad puns that could be made about a fundraiser for breast cancer which features creative designs for bras, but I will refrain.

The Polish Falcon lodge in town is holding such a fundraiser, and the details are below.

If you are Polish Falcon, you may submit your design by October 18. Non-Falcons have to wait until October 25.

408 Cold Shoulders

A record 204 brave souls took the frigid plunge into Crystal Lake in Middletown today during the 9th annual Penguin Plunge hosted by the Polish Falcons. There were 38 more taking the dive this year than last. The plunge also drew hundreds of less brave onlookers to the event which is an annual fundraiser for the Special Olympics.

Among the celebrity plungers were Connecticut State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and Middletown Deputy Police Chief McMahon Patrick McMahon.
