Want Less Bullying? Be Kind. And Say Thank You.

If we care about creating cultures of respect in our schools, then we need to start here, with the adults in charge.

I think the first people we all need to be kinder to are our local elected officials, who do the jobs that they do for little or no stipend, who are willing to stick their necks out, and who become the target for a lot of frustration that is often misplaced.

And I'm especially thinking of the folks on Board of Education, Planning & Zoning, and the Inland Wetlands Commissions in Middletown. Thank you all for your service to us. I appreciate you. I've seen the dedication and the good jobs that you all do and have done.

I declare, on no authority except my own, that the next 24-hours be known as the "Be Kind to Your Local Elected Officials" Day. Starting now.
