The 88-acre Mica Ledges Preserve is a beautiful and permanently protected open space that is open to everyone. The easiest access is from the parking lot at the end of Cream Pot Rd. Following a dirt road about ½ a mile you reach the beautiful 6-acre Whitney Pond - a great place for a picnic or for just enjoying nature. On the blue-blazed Mattabessett Trail located to the west (now part of the New England Trail), in less than a mile you reach exposed mica studded ledges with a magnificent vistas south to Long Island Sound and west to the trap rock ridges.
