Jim Paradis Album Release Show- "Not Finished Yet"

Enjoy an evening of new music with Jim Paradis in this intimate setting at The Buttonwood Tree as he performs the songs from his brand new album, “Not Finished Yet”. The songs Jim Paradis writes evoke a sense of home, love and loss, and the changes life brings to a searching soul. He makes his home aboard a modest Sailboat on the New England coast where, with his guitar, he marries music and melody to scraps of lyrics inspired by encounters on the road. His magnetic warmth draws you into the stories, the energy and the emotion of his heartfelt music. His songs invite you in to reveal the extraordinary in the commonplace. Joining Jim on stage during this show will be Eric Michael Lichter and Mark Mirando. Eric Michael Lichter owns and operates Dirt Floor Studios where Jim’s new record was recorded and produced. He is a talented multi instrumentalist, vocalist, producer and songwriter. He has performed at The Buttonwood Tree many times, and not too long ago, with Kerri Powers. Mark Mirando is Jim’s long time band mate and co-writer, as well as founding member, with Jim, of October Moon. Be a part of Buttonwood’s first ever open mic specifically for teen performers ages 12-18. Perform any type of artwork: you can use our piano or bring a guitar, ukulele, or other instrument to play! Cover your favorite song or perform an original! Whether it is your first time performing or you are an experienced teen musician, poet, or artist, the Buttonwood Tree is a positive, supporting environment for teens to perform. Parents and friends are welcome to come support!

A Professor of Biology at Amherst College, reedman Dick Poccia has played in jazz groups in Western Massachusetts for 30 years, recording with the Valley Big Band, Jeff Holmes Big Band, Amherst Jazz Orchestra, and the Lowe-Jaffe Repertory Big Band. Currently a member of the Secondary Messengers, the Amherst Jazz Orchestra, Creacion Latin Big Band, Never Been to Spain, Ask Me Now, and Jeff Holmes Big Band. Played in back up bands for the Temptations, Ronnie Spector, Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, Ernie Watts, Claudio Roditi, Yusef Lateef, John Abercrombie, Steve Turre, Al Cohn, Rufus Reed, Karrin Allyson, Steve Davis, Sheila Jordan, George Garzone, Peter Erskine, John Fedchock, and the Ringling Brother Circus and the Monadnock Chorus. Has twice toured in Russia playing at the White Nights Jazz Festival. Has performed at Sculler’s, the El Morocco, Sandy’s, Berklee School of Music, the Philharmonic Jazz Center in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Estrada State Theater in Moscow, and DOCKS television program in Lisbon. Played with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Festival Orchestra with Gunther Schuller at Amherst College.

Trumpeter Rob Faulkner is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at UMass, Amherst. He joined the band in 2018. A leading player on the local scene he currently plays in several small ensembles and is a regular with the Amherst Jazz Orchestra. In addition to his work in economic sociology He authored or co-authored several boks on music including “Do You Know?” The Jazz Repertoire in Action, Art From Start to Finish: Jazz, Painting, Writing, and Other Improvisations, Music On Demand: Composers and Careers in the Hollywood Film Industry, and Hollywood Studio Musicians: Their Work and Careers In The Film Industry.
Pianist Jeff Bucs hails from Southampton, Massachusetts.He studied English literature at The George Washington University and has a Master’s degree in Education from UMass, Amherst. Since then, He studied with Nathan Davis (saxophonist for Kenny Clarke and Eric Dolphy), Bobby Bradford (trumpet player for Ornette Coleman), David Arnay (keyboardist for Bennie Maupin). While living in the LA area he played piano with the Leon Wesley Sextet among other various jazz groups. In addition to regular solo gigs he manages the jazz quartet One Flight Up.
Bassist Mark Dunlap, from Holyoke, MA, is a PASS Region I Assistant at the Federal Aviation Administration. He has studied bass with accomplished NYC bassists Santi DeBriano and Joe Fonda, and composition and improvisation with long-time mentor, Dr. Ed Byrne. He is a founding member and serves on the board of the Western New England Double Bass Society, a group of 200 performing double bassists that sponsors bass workshops and concerts in New England. Mark serves as the Chairman for the Holyoke Cultural Council under the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Mark co-leads The Interplay Jazz Band, Frain/Dunlap Jazz Trip, InterTrip and performs with other bands including Berkshire Jazz Underground, Eastern Standard Time, and Disciples of Cool in New England and New York. He co-owns the independent recording label and publishing company Simmer Music has released a CD with guitarist David Frain entitled “Pull The Shades” and has organized festivals including the Holyoke Latin Jazz Festival and the Reggae Rager and Future Roots Festival.
Drummer Bill Matthews PhD., a professor emeritus at the University of Massachusetts, has been playing drums since his teenage years. In the late 1980’s, he studied music intensively, taking workshops and lessons at the Drummer’s Collective in NYC, Jazz in July at the University of Massachusetts, and later where he had the opportunity to play with the legendary Archie Shepp. Since, the early 1990’s, Bill began and continues his study with the great Boston based drummer, Bob Gullotti of the Fringe. Bill played for 2 years in the Valley Jazz Ensemble under the direction of trombonist Ed Byrne and with DBRAZZ, a piano trio. He has performed in numerous concerts at local venues in the Valley including Moment’s Notice and the Eclectic Jazz Quartet.Details here/Reserve seats
