Today,
Democrat Mary Bartolotta, who currently serves as the Deputy Majority Leader on
the Middletown Common Council, officially filed her paperwork to launch her bid
to become Middletown’s next mayor.
“I am
running for mayor because I believe with the right values, vision, and
leadership our city can grow in a way that will benefit the lives of all of our
residents,” Bartolotta stated. “In my mind, growth does not mean our economy
thrives and only a few people prosper, it means growing together as a city. We
need to invest in our people by fostering entrepreneurship, supporting local
businesses, as well as attracting companies that will bring jobs to our city.
It means ensuring that we are providing the best possible education and
opportunities to our young people, addressing the growing tax burden on working
and middle class families, and helping our seniors receive the services they
need. It also means developing in ways that are environmentally conscious and
supporting policies that encourage companies to be as eco-friendly as possible.
From Southfield to Westfield District to the North End and the diversity of our
Main Street to the economic treasures of our side streets, and every
neighborhood in between, we plan to fight to maintain the unique characteristics
that defines our great city while creating a smart and sustainable path
forward.”
Prior to
public service, Mary worked with children with disabilities, and eventually
pursued a career in business, rising through the ranks from sales assistant to
district manager, where she was eventually in charge of overseeing 21 stores.
It wasn’t until Mary saw the impact that proposed power lines would have on the
quality of life in her neighborhood that she stood up and spoke out, becoming a
vocal advocate for land use and the effects on Middletown residents.
“I want to
be your mayor because I have a proven record of standing up for families in our
city, speaking out for what’s right, and making the tough choices needed to
keep our city and schools prepared for success. We need to pursue smart,
innovative projects such as developing our waterfront and making it one of the
premier destinations not only in Connecticut but New England, while also
investing in what already makes Middletown so precious and unique. I am ready
to lead Middletown forward and have the vision to help create a better future
for our city.”
Mary’s
husband Sebby, is a lifelong resident of Middletown and currently serves the
community as a Sergeant in the Middletown Police. They reside on Talcott Ridge
Road with their son.
