MxCC Receives Grant From The Home Depot Foundation For Veterans Memorial Garden

Middlesex Community College received a grant for $5,000 from the Home Depot Foundation to fund a veterans memorial garden on campus. This garden will be a space to honor and remember veterans.
The memorial garden will be situated along the main entrance walkway leading to Chapman Hall, one of the most visible locations on campus to students, staff, and visitors. The design includes a memorial seating area, engraved stone emblems for each branch of the military, and a bird and butterfly habitat that will make the area attractive, welcoming, and sustainable.
“This grant from the Home Depot Foundation will allow us to create a beautiful space on campus to commemorate our veterans,” said Peter Galgano, media associate and veterans outreach coordinator. “Every person that passes by will be reminded of the dedication of our veterans.”
Members of MxCC’s Veterans Club, along with community volunteers, and local veteran organizations will work collaboratively to prepare the site, and install the bench and plantings. The memorial garden is expected to be completed at the end of August.
“As our veterans return to civilian life after service dedicated to preserving our country and our values, it is important that we remember their sacrifice and express our gratitude to them,” said H. Brian Dumeer, chairman of the Middlesex Community College Foundation. “This memorial garden will be a visible and constant reminder for our college community and the larger Middlesex County community about the debt we owe to generations of the region’s veterans. "
MxCC has been recognized as a Military Friendly School, which honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

I'm a veteran and member of the VFW... Forgive me, but doesn't Veteran's park along Rte 66 already serve this purpose?? It has monuments for all services, benches, etc.
