North End Farmers Market Opens Season, Offers Double Dollars and Kids Market Programs

North End Farmers Market will open its season this Friday with over a dozen vendors selling
fresh bread, milk, eggs, produce, flowers and more! From 12-1 pm, there will be prepared lunch
offering from Tandoor Indian Restaurant and soulful music by local musician, David Davis.

The Market will once again be offering its Double Dollars Incentive Program, which matches the
amount of money spent by customers using federal and state benefits, bringing more food into
the homes of families. Additionally, the market will offer our North End Kids Market program to
North End youth. This innovative program gives the kids involved tokens to shop at our farmers
market and teaches them about the environment, eating healthy, budgeting and the importance
of knowing where your food comes from.

DATE & TIME: Friday June 22, 2012. 10 AM – 2 PM.
The market is held every Friday through the end of October.

South Green Historic District

In just two short weeks we've switched from "following" to "finding" Phileas Fogg. The explorer departed Oddfellow's company and embarked on an unscheduled itinerary with guides unknown. If you see Phileas Fogg - or a 6' tall, flat, Victorian cartooned gentleman Around Middletown - please report his whereabouts to Oddfellows Playhouse at 860-347-6143. Today is a great day to visit the South Green, located at the intersection of Main Street and South Main Street/Rt 17. In the center of the Green is a monument to soldiers from Middletown who served in the American Civil War. Until 1pm today there is a Farmer's market with fresh, local vegatables for sale.

The South Green also serves as a starting point to explore the South Green Historic District. Added to the register of National Historic Places in 1975, the South Green Historic District encompasses South Main Street, Crescent Street, Pleasant Street and Church Street. Architectural styles range between Colonial, Gothic Revival, Federal and Italianate. Houses date from as early as the 1700s and up to the early 1900s. It is a wonderful example of the range of architectural styles and preservation in Middletown. Today is a beautiful day for a lunch time or afternoon walk before tomorrow's rain. North End Farmer's Market Today

Beginning today and running on Fridays throughout the summer, the North End Market offers fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods and other CT Farm products.

Today is the first one, so we're just getting the hang of it, but as the summer progresses, we hope to add more and more farms.

It is being held on the big, wide sidewalk in front of It's Only Natural Market (thank you to them and to Peter Harding!) and runs from 8-1. Stop by before work or on your lunch break.

It's a perfect day for it!

All farms are WIC Certified and (after today), you may use your EBT Card.
