Opinion: Russo Has a Record of Achievement

Submitted by Domenique Thornton, former mayor.
---------------
I have strongly endorsed Bill Russo for Mayor in the upcoming September 10 th primary because I know that he has character, talent and ability that I believe will serve us well good Mayor for all of Middletown. As a director he was honest in his assessments, forthcoming in with solutions and never failed to get the job done whether it was a snow storm, large public event, or finishing large public projects like our park renovations. However, in light of the very divisive and derogatory comments made recently about his ability and character, I feel compelled to highlight his able track record of getting things done and offer some insight into what led to his promotion within the Public Works Department.

Bill Russo had record of achievement in public works. Someone who worked their way up from laborer to director and succeeded at each step has earned our respect and confidence to go to the next level as chief executive. Bill oversees the largest city department budget and manages the largest number of employees. Bill has the confidence of the workers and department heads alike and works well with all of them including fire and police. As someone not born and raised here, I also took the recommendation of another former Mayor Tom Serra who knew Bill Russo since high school as his baseball and basketball coach. Tom Serra had faith in Bill Russo and Tom was right. He never disappointed and he got the job done.

I am well aware of the ways negative comments play a role in Middletown politics but I think that false and unsubstantiated claims should be ignored. The record of achievement is what counts. What has each candidate actually done for Middletown? How much of a track record can each candidate offer us? I think Bill Russo is the one who has done the most and can lead us into the future.

Bill Russo is one of the most passionate advocates and supporters of Middletown I have ever known. His dedication and devotion to Middletown is unmatched. His leadership on many large projects and numerous committees has improved the lives of those in our community and preserved what makes Middletown special. He deserves our praise. I know Bill Russo will make an outstanding mayor.

This from the mayor that gave him the job he wasn't qualified for.

He has the support of his staff - bar none. That's proof of his qualifications for me.
