From Kim O'Rourke:
It’s time to run and recycle! The City of Middletown is pleased to announce that it will again serve as a regional collection point for recycling sneakers. Sneakers will be collected at the City’s Recycling Center on the corner of Johnson Street and North Main Street from now until June 27th. The sneakers will be recycled into a variety of athletic surfaces including basketball courts, tracks and playgrounds.
The rules are simple:
Only athletic shoes (any brand) are acceptable.
No metal (eyelets, cleats or spikes).
No dress shoes, thongs, sandals, boots or shoes with lights.
Shoes must be kept dry. No wet or muddy shoes.
Do not tie shoes together.
Shoes must be delivered to the Middletown Recycling Center by June 27, 2011.
The Recycling Center is located on the corner of Johnson St and North Main St in Middletown. It is open from 7am – 3pm Monday – Friday and every Saturday through June, 7am – 12 noon. A residence pass is required to use the Center. This can be obtained from the Department of Public Works in City Hall.
Recycling sneakers will help reduce pollution, conserve energy and save natural resources, not to mention, clean out many overstuffed closets! For more information, contact the City Recycling Coordinator at 860-344-3526 or kim.orourke@cityofmiddletown.com
