Holy Week at First Church

First Church of Christ,
Congregational

190 Court Street
Middletown.
860-346-6657

First Church Holy Week events this year include Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday services.

Maundy Thursday, April 21, 7:30 p.m. The Maundy Thursday service of Word and Sacrament, including the Office of Tenebrae will be held in the Memorial Room this year to permit a more intimate, meditative service. The service will end with 5 minutes of darkness.

Good Friday, April 22, 7:30 p.m. South Congregational Church will join us in our sanctuary for our observance For this year's Good Friday Service, commemorating Jesus’ crucifixion. Choirs from both churches will join to sing the anthem. The service will include an opportunity for individual worshipers to pound a nail into the large wooden cross. The First Church Deacons will serve hot cross buns and beverage for refreshments after the service in the Memorial Room.

Easter Sunday, Sunday, April 24, 10 a.m. This year's Celebration of Easter at First Church will begin with our traditional "Procession of the Lilies." Children will remain in the sanctuary. The service will include a festive Eucharist and the reading of the necrology, a listing of members and friends of First Church who have died since last Easter. (If you would like a name added to the necrology, please call the office or email John Hall.) The service culminates joyously with the entire congregation singing the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah.
