Soup Kitchen, Shelter Leaders Join HBO Filmmaker Monday Night For Screening, Talk

Harry Gantz will be coming to Wesleyan's Center for Film Studies on April 7th at 6 pm to share his film "American Winter". Join us for a screening of this powerful documentary and a panel talk, including Ron Krom, Executive Director of the St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen, and Mackenzie Tyson, Program Manager at the Eddy Shelter, following the film. Light refreshments will be served before the film at 5:00. The event is free of charge.

Produced and directed by Emmy award-winning filmmakers, Joe and Harry Gantz, American Winter is a documentary feature film that follows the personal stories of families struggling in the aftermath of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Filmmaker To Screen & Discuss Documentary "American Winter" in Middletown

Produced and directed by Emmy award-winning filmmakers, Joe and Harry Gantz, American Winter is a documentary feature film that follows the personal stories of families struggling in the aftermath of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Career Express Bus and Rx Express Bus at Eddy Shelter Monday June 8

From the Connection

The Connection is hosting the Dept. of Labor’s Career Express Bus and the Dept. of Social Service’s Rx Xpress Bus at the Eddy Shelter on June 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. The Connection be running shuttles hourly to pick people up from the community.Xpres Bus on Monday, June 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1 LaBella Circle. Shuttles will run hourly to pick up and drop off individuals who are interested in visiting the buses.

The Career Express is a mobile One-Stop Career Center. Career Express provides the latest workforce and job skills development services to individuals and employers across the state. It is equipped with eight computer workstations with Internet access, the latest audio-visual systems including a plasma TV with SMARTBoard technology and a hydraulic wheelchair lift to make it fully accessible to persons with disabilities.

RX-Express Buss: DSS Rx-Xpress is a mobile, Medicare Rx assistance center operated by the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS). DSS provides individuals with information and enrollment assistance for the Medicare Rx (Part D) drug coverage program and public assistance programs administered by DSS. Programs that help secure healthcare, financial assistance, child care and energy assistance. It offers Medicare RX information an enrollments assistance, benefits check up eligibility screening for programs and benefits, DSS Eligibility Services and information and referrals.

“With the shrinking job market, slow economy, and funding being reduced these are great resources, free to everyone, that are intended to assist in rebuilding lives,” said Ashley Tupper, Vocational Specialist for The Connection, Inc. “That is part of The Connection Inc's mission statement, and that is what I try to do in my job every day. This will be a day for the people and a chance to change someone's life for the better,” said Ashley, who is also the coordinator for the event.

There will be representatives from United Labor Agency, Middletown Adult Education, MXCC, LEAD program and more!
