Story City Troupe
(Feat. Matt Dicks and Tom Ouimet)
Friday, July 6 @ 8 - 10PM, $10 Admission

THIS EVENT WILL  BE HELD AT MAC 650 - 650 MAIN STREET

About the Feature Teller, Matthew Dicks:

Matt has been telling stories onstage since July of 2011 when he took the stage at a Moth StorySLAM at the Nuyorican’s Poets CafĂ© in New York. He dropped his name in the hat, and when Dan Kennedy called his name, he took the stage and told a story about pole vaulting in high school.
He recounts, "By some miracle, I won that night. More importantly, I fell in love with storytelling.
Since that night, I have competed in 63 Moth StorySLAMs in New York and Boston and have won 36. I’ve competed in 20 Moth GrandSLAM championships, winning 5 times. I've also performed in Moth Main Stage shows in New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, and North Hampton, MA. My stories have appeared on the Peabody Award winning The Moth Radio Hour and their weekly podcast."

He has told stories for:
  • This American Life
  • The Story Collider
  • TED
  • The Liar Show
  • Out by Ten
  • Other People's Stories
  • The Mouth
  • Literary Death Match
He has also hosted story slams for the Uptown Literary Festival, Purdue University, Yale University, Unitversity of Connecticut, Graded School in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and many others.

In 2013, Dick's wife and he founded Speak Up, a storytelling organization that produces shows throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts and teaches storytelling to both beginning storytellers as well as experienced raconteurs.
Matthew Dicks is the internationally bestselling author of the novels Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend, Something MissingUnexpectedly, Milo, The Perfect Comeback of Caroline Jacobs, and the upcoming Storyworthy: Engage, Teach, Persuade, and Change Your Life through the Power of Storytelling, The Other Mother, and Cardboard Knight. His novels have been translated into more than 25 languages worldwide.

Everyone enjoys a good story, especially this diverse troupe of storytellers. Based in the capitol of Hartford, these individuals are trained in the art of the Moth Formula: enthralling, true stories that are often funny, personal, poignant, or ironic. As with every show, their stories all revolve around a single theme. Audiences are invited to come up and share their stories, too!
Join us for a night of good stories and greater company.

NOTE: Due to the heat, we will be hosting this month's Story City Troupe
across the street from Buttonwood, in the art gallery of MAC 650.

Saturday, July 7th @ 10:30am - 12PM, $10 suggested donation (Pay what you can)

A Middletown resident for over 30 years, Edward often ends up wandering the varied parts of the North End. Eventually, the camera came too. Edward has since taken it upon himself to explore society and its various shades of beauty through the lens of a camera. It has taken him into both wooded and urban landscapes, natural and constructed elegance, and places both pretty and gritty.

“To be alive on this planet is a gift; all one needs to do is frame the experience.”
