         Come learn how you can become part of a movement to create safe places for our pollinating insects.

         Jackie Algon, a founding member of the Northeast Pollinator Pathway project, will be our featured speaker. She will share her expertise and experience on making our yards, neighborhoods, and public spaces a welcoming place for butterflies, bees, and birds.

         There will be a Q&A time, resources to share, and a chance to network with others who want to be part of this effort.

A limited number of chairs will be available but you are encouraged to bring your own. This event will be held outdoors (under cover in the event of light rain) in the gardens behind the building. If you are unable to attend, you may still join in on your own, holding this beautiful and heartfelt vision in your mind’s eye, adding it to the collective consciousness.

Annaita Gandhy, a Spiritual Guide in our Middletown community, will lead the meditation. 

   Annaita is a powerful presence. As teacher & healer, she offers meditations, workshops, energy healing, and guidance in personal growth. Annaita also has hosted workshops at the Buttonwood Tree since 2011 and holds regular group meditations online.  Though Life is her primary teacher, she has studied various healing modalities and has done extensive outreach work in healing & teaching for groups both here and in India. 

She shares the wisdom of the Masters who trained her with all who are led to her teachings. This event is free. Donations are welcome, to support The Buttonwood Tree’s programming.

The Rockfall Foundation Announces Recipients of 2021 Environmental Champion Awards

The Rockfall Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2021 Environmental Champion Awards. The award winners were selected from nominations submitted by members of the community across the Lower Connecticut River Valley. Kim O'Rourke has been selected for the Tom ODell Distinguished Service Award, which honors long-term accomplishments in environmental conservation and preservation. Certificates of Appreciation are being awarded to Bernie Gillis of the East Haddam Conservation Commission and Dr. Diba Khan-Bureau of Three Rivers Community College.

The awards will be presented at the Foundation's Awards and Grants Celebration on Tuesday, November 9. You are invited to join us for this virtual celebration! Click here for event details. 

Tom ODell Distinguished Service Award Recipient

Kim O'Rourke:

Kim has served 30 years as Recycling Coordinator for the City of Middletown. Starting as the City's second coordinator at a time when mandatory recycling was new in Connecticut, Kim has built a program in Middletown that has received recognition statewide and regionally. Throughout her career, Kim has expanded the purview of her one-person operation to include multiple aspects of environmental conservation, including ecosystem protection, sustainability, waste reduction, composting, and organic food production.

Russell Library Friends Launch the "BOOK NOOK"

 The Friends of Russell Library have opened the "Book Nook" on the second floor of the library, opposite the elevator in the information and public computer area. In addition to a large section of fiction and non-fiction for adults, there are books for all ages of children, organized by reading level, plus CD's, DVD's, and a selection of jigsaw puzzles. Come and stock up for fall and winter entertainment. all proceeds support library offerings such as museum passes and the summer reading program.

2021 Saint Sebastian's Church Centennial Anniversary Mass, September 19, 2021

 

SAINT SEBASTIAN’S CHURCH 100^TH ANNIVERSARY MASS ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2021

 

The Saint Sebastian's Church celebrated its 100th Anniversary with a High Mass in honor of their patron saint. The Celebrants were Father JamesThaikoottathil and Father Raymond Introvigne, a former Assistant Pastor of St. Sebastian's Church. 

 

At the conclusion of the mass a scaled down version of the "I Nuri Run" took place. Several "I Nuri" entered the church saying "E Chiamamulu Paisanu! Primu Diu E Sammastianu!” Soon, the whole congregation was saying it too.

Middlefield resident Gina Fredericks played a role in the high mass. She serves as the Organist for the church since 1965. She started right before Easter that year because the church's organist became ill. They asked her to play. After that the church wanted her to continue so she stayed. Fredericks also serves as the Chorus Director for the Middlesex Hospital Vocal Chords since 1990 to the present.
