Local Paranormal group hosts charity event, TAPS investgator to attend

Last summer the Middletown based Paranormal Association of Central Connecticut hosted the very successful Guided Lantern Tour of Indian Hill Cemetery & Wadsworth Mansion. Proceeds benefited the Godfrey Memorial Library and Indian Hill Cemetery Foundation. The Eye covered the event
here & here

As an amateur photographer & lover of historic architecture, I found the Guided Lantern Tour a wonderful opportunity to get night time shots at an other wise off limits locations in Middletown. This spring, the group is hosting another public charity event.

Come join PACC for a night of investigating the once Spencer Mansion.. Now the Deep River Public Library.. come see what happens when the lights go down in this beautiful location.
Doors open April 2nd at 6 pm for a class on the equipment the group uses. Investigation begins at 7 pm runs till 1 am.

Cost of the event ticket is $50.00. All ticket sales to go to the Deep River Library
Equipment class from 6 pm - 7 pm $ 10.00 per person. No tickets will be sold at the event, all participants must pre purchase via the group's website below. Novice ghost hunters or just curious history buffs are welcome to attend. Amateur photographers will find this a particular interesting opportunity to document the mansion as well.
PACC would like to emphasize this is a completely secular and open event done with the utmost respect all the participant's belief's; a purely investigative approach is taken. Think you might have something going bump in the night in your house?
PACC does home investigations FREE of charge to clients, interested may contact the group via the web. They bring in professional equipment including infrared cameras, and home owners can participate.
While the group does investigations in private homes, in no way does the group associate it self with any religious practices-
occult or conventional ( a common misconception); and in fact all participants are asked to refrain from practicing while at the investigation to keep the atmosphere open and positive. None the less, in the past events like this attract all kinds of people, and one just might be surprised in meeting like minded individuals of all backgrounds. PACC encourages people to take a look at the mission statement on the website.

A special guest at the investigation in Deep River will be Robert Moccio an established ghost hunter/investigator from the well known group TAPS.

Payments currenlty can be made via Paypal..... visit the web site at

Garden Club Plant Sale at Wadsworth

submitted by Ona McLaughlin, Horticulture Chair

GET READY FOR FALL GARDENING AT THE MIDDLETOWN GARDEN CLUB PLANT SALE

Middletown...The Middletown Garden Club will stage a fall plant sale as part of the Wadsworth Mansion Open Air Market, Sunday, August 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mansion.

The club will be offering a variety of usual and unusual plants for the fall garden and landscape as well as bargain divisions from members’ gardens. Members will also take orders for a specially selected daffodil bulb collection and for their popular holiday amaryllis blooms.

Here in New England, gardeners wait patiently through the winter for the emergence of flowers, the greening of trees and the smell of freshly turned soil. When the earth finally awakens, they head out to their favorite garden centers and plant sales to purchase plants that will adorn their properties for the coming seasons. Many buy whatever is in flower, plant it, and call their work “done.” Their gardens are beautiful in spring and summer, but what about fall? Why not make this the year that you plant a glorious fall garden?

The discerning gardeners in The Middletown Garden Club will help you with fall plant selections and offer advice about their bargain perennial divisions. Whether you are adding to your fall landscape, planting with next spring in mind, or holiday shopping, this sale has something for you. Mid-August through mid-September brings perfect planting weather for many favorite New England plants.

Tuesday December 29:
The Russell Library continues its Teen Anime Film series with a presentation of "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind", the 1984 animated film by Hayao Miyazaki. According to the film's website (click here), the story revolves around "Nausicaa, the princess of a small nation who lives in a world devastated by a holocaust called the "Seven Days of Fire." She tries to stop other warring nations from destroying themselves and from destroying the only means by which their world can be saved from the spread of polluted wastelands." The screening takes place at 4 p.m. in the Hubbard Room and refreshments will be served.  The event s free and open to all. For more information, call 860-347-2528, extension 135.
Wednesday December 30:
You have but one more day to check out the "natural images" of photographer Ross Powell currently on display in The Buttonwood Tree. The Cromwell resident (and Connecticut native) has many peaceful photographs to remind one how beautiful this area can be. Call 860-347-4957 for viewing times.

Thursday New Year's Eve:
South Church, corner of Main & Pleasant Street, presents pianist Neely Bruce performing an all-Mozart program at 7 p.m.  Joining him will be his wife Phyllis, a fine soprano.  The event is open to the public and an offering will be taken for the Church's Organ Fund.

The Friends of the Long Hill Estate and the Long Hill Estate Authority presents the 11th Annual New Year's Day Open House, scheduled to take place from 1 - 4 p.m.  There will be carriage rides and guided trail walks (weather permitting) and bluegrass music featuring Amy Gallatin & Stillwaters.  Light refreshments and docent-led tours of the building are also on the day's menu. On Sunday January 3, my radio pal at WMRD-AM 1150 Ed Henry celebrates his 60th year (!) of his weekly "Polish Melodies Show."  When the show began in 1950, Harry Truman was the President and Chester Bowles was governor of the state.  Nat "King" Cole had a big hit with "Mona Lisa" and Patti Page was all the rage with "Tennessee Waltz". The top movies of the year were "All About Eve", "The Asphalt Jungle" and Walt Disney's "Cinderella"  The Cold War was is full swing and the Korean conflict began.  Mr. Henry will be celebrating on air (as he does every week - his shows are usually filled with joy) - tune in from 10-11 a.m.

Happy New Year all and have a good, safe, celebration!
