Harry Gantz will be coming to Wesleyan's Center for Film Studies on April 7th at 6 pm to share his film "American Winter". Join us for a screening of this powerful documentary and a panel talk, including Ron Krom, Executive Director of the St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen, and Mackenzie Tyson, Program Manager at the Eddy Shelter, following the film. Light refreshments will be served before the film at 5:00. The event is free of charge.

'Crude Independence' - Film night at Wesleyan

CFPA is sponsoring a showing of the award winning movie Crude Independence on Friday, May 8th at 7:30 pm at Wesleyan University.

The film is the work of Wesleyan senior Noah Hutton. The evening will begin at 7:30 with Noah discussing the film and its production. Noah will also participate in a Q&A after the film.

Place: Wesleyan University, Exley Science Building, Room 150, 265 Church Street

Time: 7:30 PM, Friday, May 8th.

Admission: CFPA members - $5, non-members - $10, seniors - $7, free admissions for both if you bring a friend who joins CFPA that evening.

Wesleyan Grad, Documentary Filmaker Detained in Nigeria

Andrew Berends (Wesleyan, 1994) an award-winning documentary filmmaker has been detained in Nigeria for filming a Nigerian army deployment in the oil-producing Niger Delta.

Detained for a week, Berends was released briefly, and re-detained today along with his local translator Samuel George.

A website has been created to help those who are concerned keep up-to-date on Berends' fate, and to direct those willing to take action to the appropriate US officials.

Berends is best-known for his documentary about the war in Iraq, The Blood of My Brother.
