Primary Election Wednesday
Our city's primary election will take place on Wednesday this year. Residents who are registered Democrats can vote at their normal polling stations between 6AM and 8PM.
It is not too late for voters who are not affiliated to register as Democrats in order to vote in this primary. According to Denise Merrill, "Unaffiliated voters have until ... September 15th at noon to enroll in [the Democratic] party in-person if they want to vote in the primary." This needs to be done in the Registrar's Office, in City Hall.
Similarly, it is also not too late for residents who are not registered to vote in Middletown to register to vote. Registration can be done up until Tuesday at noon, also in the Registrar's office.
The ballot (above) features candidates endorsed by the Democratic Town Committee on row A, and candidates who collected over 500 petition signatures to challenge those selected by the Town Committee on row B
Voters can cast ballots for up to 8 of the 9 candidates for Common Council, Hope Kasper is running against 8 candidates who were selected by the Democratic Town Committee.
For Board of Education, Sean King and Sue Wesolsoki are running against 5 other candidates who were selected by the Democratic Town Committee. Voters can cast ballots for up to 5 of the 7 BoE candidates.
In both races, voters can vote for as few as one candidate, there is no requirement to vote for the maximum number allowed.
