Mayor Daniel T. Drew is pleased to announce that the City of Middletown has registered again with the Connecticut River Watershed Council to participate in the 19th Annual Source to Sea Cleanup. "This year will be the third year of Middletown's participating in what is gearing up to be one of the biggest river cleanups ever," said Mayor Drew. "I invite everyone to participate in this important event, as the river is a vital resource to both our community and our environment."
The cleanup is scheduled for Friday, September 25, 2015 from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm. The event will kick off at Harbor Park, and will occur rain or shine (torrential rain and thunderstorms will cancel the event.) The cleanup will focus on Harbor Park, Columbus Point, Sumner Brook Area, Public Safety Dock, and along River Road. Volunteers are needed for cleanup on land as well as along the river's edge using kayaks and canoes. Gloves and trash bags will be distributed to the volunteers. Each volunteer will be asked to sign a waiver prior to his or her participation in the cleanup. A limited number of T-shirts will be given to the first volunteers who register. Refreshments will be served.
James Sipperly, Environmental Resource Specialist for the City of Middletown, is coordinating this event. Interested individuals and groups are asked to contact him at (860) 638-3506 or by email at james.sipperly@middletownct.gov.
Mayor Drew also added, "I greatly appreciate the efforts of volunteers who support events that clean up the environment and beautify our City's most valuable resources."
