Kirtan with Shubalananda

Shubalananda Saraswati (Larry Kopp) is bringing his
spiritual musical performance called kirtan to The Buttonwood Tree. He
has been performing kirtan, a form of yoga, for many years. Kirtan also
includes a musical aspect, similar to our own American gospel music. He
has pioneered the practice through his magazine “Time & Space, a
Kirtan Journal” and his book, Kirtan Wallah.

Humble Tripe - Album Release Party

Pushing the boundaries of Folk-Americana, Humble Tripe moves from
songwriter to symphony, resulting in a haunting landscape of beautiful
swells, dramatic tension and space on their upcoming sophomore album
entitled, The Giving. In celebration of their latest work, Humble Tripe’s Shawn Luby, a
nationally recognized classical guitar player in his youth, and Berklee
School of Music graduate, Stud Green return to Middletown, CT for a
special acoustic performance of the album at The Buttonwood Tree.

Rising jazz guitarist/composer Sinan Bakir made a name for himself in
today’s music scene with his unique, creative, and exciting approach on
the guitar. This Turkish-born guitarist is striving for a fresh and
clean sound and has a highly energetic playing style. He is hailed not
only as a virtuoso player, but also a masterful composer by his peers.
Bakir’s fresh sounding tunes are an amalgam of rock & jazz stylings
and driven by strong melodies deriving from the rich Turkish tradition
combined with modern jazz harmonies.

Stories & Piano with Robin Spielberg
3 pm, $10 advance/$13 door
Popular pianist/composer Robin Spielberg will perform a delightful
program of enchanting pieces for solo piano from her vast repertoire of
popular American melodies and original favorites. Spielberg’s concerts
have the distinction of intertwining humorous and poignant storytelling
with her musical gifts at the piano. She will share excerpts from her
new memoir, “Naked on the Bench: My Adventures in Pianoland”, a book
filled with humor and piano adventures during this performance.
