Art for Haiti Opens Thursday

Here's a question for you:

What do Middletown's hottest new florist and a former common councilman and the creator Main Street's exuberantly colorful recycling containers have in common?

All three are exhibiting their artwork in a benefit called Art For Haiti that begins Thursday, June 6th, with an opening reception from 5 to 7 pm at Wesleyan's Zilkha Gallery.  The show, which includes photography, painting, floral art, ceramic sculpture, found-art-robots and more, will continue through June 15th during the gallery's open hours from noon to 5 pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

The artists referenced above include Catherine Epright of Green Dahlia Florist on South Main; former politico and sometime commenter on the Middletown Eye David Bauer; and Haitian-born artist (and oil drum painter) Pierre Sylvain.  (Art of Recycling Ceremony Highlights).  Others in the show include Paul Baldassini, Lief Nilsson, Ralph Levesque, Andria Alex, Balam Soto, Joyce Senesac, Tina McCurdy, William E. Lawson III, and Connie Nichols.

The exhibition is a benefit for Haiti, with a portion of the exhibition sales going to a Haiti-based non-profit called "Movin' with the Spirit".   MWTS is dedicated to helping people from the poorest part of Haiti by creating a school, an orphanage and many other services.
