(Middletown, CT) Middletown’s Vet’s Pool Summer Swim Team is celebrating 2 nd and 3rd
place finishes at the Central Connecticut Summer Swim League (CCSL) Championships.
Vet’s senior team, comprised of swimmers ages 13-18, won second place at the
championship meet at Rocky Hill High School on August 1st. The junior team, with
young swimmers aged 5-12, took third place on Saturday at the Star Hill Aquatics Center in
Tolland.
“Both meets were tremendous team performances. Our swimmers were committed to the
team goals and have been working hard the whole season,” said Nick Dagenais, Founder
and Program Director of the Vet’s Pool Summer Swim Team. “That effort paid off as
every swimmer was able to improve significantly from their seed times and score for the
team. The energy from one great swim inspired the next great swim as we built on each
other's success.”
The CCSL Championship meets feature hundreds of swimmers from 14 towns across
the region. Participating towns included Berlin, Bloomfield, Bristol, Enfield, Hartford,
Middletown, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, South Windsor, Tolland, Vernon, Wethersfield, Windsor,
and Windsor Locks.
The Vet’s swim team began in 2007 as an instructional and competitive program of the
Middletown Parks and Recreation Department for the youth of Greater Middletown. Since
its inception, the team has more than doubled its membership and now in its sixth season,
has more than 100 swimmers.
“From marching in the Memorial Day Parade and watching Olympic Trials together to
swimming like Olympians at the end of our season, we have had a lot of fun this season
together and are proud of all the team has done,” said Dagenais.
Coach Dagenais, a Middletown native, captained the Middletown High boys swim team
from 2006-2007, and swam for Boston College’s NCAA Division I varsity swim team,
serving as captain his senior year. Dagenais coaches the Vet’s Summer Swim team along
with five assistants who bring extensive experience to the team as former high school and
collegiate swimmers.
