Green Office Condo Breaks Ground

State Representative Matt Lesser (D-Durham, Middlefield and Middletown) joined with the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, the President of Farmington Bank, and developers for the official ground-breaking ceremony for Centerpoint Connecticut—the state’s first all “green” office condominium development today in Middletown.
“For those who say Connecticut can’t create jobs—come to Middletown,” said Lesser. “These guys are building tens of thousands of square feet of sustainable office space. Businesses are lining up to get in. Going green is not just right thing to do, it’s also good business.”
Centerpoint Connecticut is a LEED Silver-certified project consisting of seven two-story buildings designed to efficiently use resources—energy, water, and materials—while reducing impacts on the environment. The recognized standard for green building performance in the United States is the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.
Lesser, who sits on the legislature’s Energy and Technology Committee, noted that besides reducing the impact on the environment, green buildings lead to significant reductions in operating costs by using less energy and water than conventional buildings.

  2. Great question, where is this new building? According to their website, http://www.centerpointct.com/loc-direct.asp, it's in Cromwell: the pin on the map is between a restaurant and a hotel on Rt. 372. But the address, 306 Industrial Park Road, is actually south of Aetna Dr., in Middletown.

    In that site's "The Area" section (at http://www.centerpointct.com/loc-area.asp, there are links to some Middletown commerce organizations. But the "Amenities" section http://www.centerpointct.com/loc-amen.asp features bland stock photography that doesn't capture the feeling of our area.

    All the best to this new venture, we need this in Middletown.

  3. The Office Condominium is to be built on Industrial Park Road in Westfield. It was given a tax abatement at the August 2010 EDC meeting (http://middletowneyenews.blogspot.com/2010/08/kayak-launch-supported-and-parking.html)

    I remember covering either an Inland Wetlands or a P&Z Commission meeting at which it was approved, but I can't find the Eye story.

  4. Unless every employee is arriving by bus streetcar or bike, the green-ness of these buildings is relative. Looks like Mr Lessor is promoting something with only partial awareness of what he is saying, not unlike the time he was on P&Z and noted the historic nature of the church his vote, a few minutes later, approved for demolition.

  6. This is actually our project, and I just wanted to clear a few things up. It is in fact located in Middletown (not Westfield, like Stephen said), but it is is a remote area of Middletown, so we market it as Cromwell. Also, the location is farther down Industrial Park Road than what Joseph was saying, that was an error in Google Maps. If you have any questions, contact me at ken@centerpointct.com.
