Cancer Fundraiser Saturday At Cold Stone Creamery

When Priscilla Harnesk opened her Cold Stone Creamery the economy was not the only challenge she faced. It was the same year she was diagnosed with bladder cancer. On February 12th a celebration will be held commemorating the Middletown store’s five year anniversary. The event will benefit Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to the Center.

Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center patients and their families benefit from the latest in treatment technology and its Nurse Navigators, who help to guide patients efficiently through their system of care, and comprehensive clinical trials program. They can also take advantage of the services of an oncology social worker, a nutritionist, as well as numerous support groups, educational sessions, special events, a comprehensive patient and family medical resource library and a full complement of integrative medicine and survivorship programs. In 2010, The Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer.

Harnesk credits the Center with her success in dealing with cancer. She said, “Everyone at the Cancer Center is wonderful. They are caring and compassionate. They’ve become good friends”.

This event is the third time that Harnesk has held a fund raiser for the Cancer Center at her store. The opening and one year anniversary were the other fund raisers.

The day will be filled with entertainment and guest scoopers including WFSB sportscaster John Holt and Middletown Acting Police Chief Patrick McMahon. The first twenty five customers will receive a coupon for free ice cream. Anyone donating $100 or more on the 12th will receive a coupon good for one year for a cake.

Events run from noon until 10 P.M.  on Saturday, February 12th at the Middletown Store located at 100 Riverview Center.
