Rockin' in the New Year

New Year's Eve 2011 was a "coming out" party of sorts for the Middletown nightlife scene, with special events at lots of downtown venues.

There was a dance band at Esca's (pictured), a packed dance floor at Luce's, and more of a rock and roll vibe at Nikita's. The hotel had a full house with a New Year's Eve wedding, and Eli Cannon's served a reservations-only 6-course beer dinner. Buttonwood and Javapalooza both had steamed-up windows from the live entertainment, and the movie theater had a good crowd.

The prize for Most Retro Fun goes to the roller rink, where we rocked in the New Year with open skating 'till 1 am.

I can remember a time when Middletown rolled up the sidewalks at 6 pm...but that was so last century!

Happy New Year folks.
