From Mason E Felton-Reid
Middletown native Amari Spievey announced earlier this week that he will enter the National Football League draft, forgoing his senior year at the University of Iowa. Spievey has roots in both the Middletown public school system and Xavier High School, whose football team owes its 2005 state championship (Class LL) in large part to Spievey's performance at the running back position. He excelled as a cornerback at Iowa and was selected to the 2009 All-Big Ten First Team. Draft prognosticators expect that Spievey will have little trouble finding an NFL team that wants him, probably in one of the middle rounds.
The draft takes place April 22-24 in New York City.
