Jet Engine Travel Middletown Style

In 1965 Pratt and Whitney Aircraft purchased from the federal government the Connecticut Advanced Nuclear Engineering Laboratory (C.A.N.E.L.), in the Maromas section of Middletown, and turned it into a jet engine manufacturing plant. The next year Pratt and Whitney began the development of the world’s first high-bypass ratio commercial turbofan to power the world’s first wide body aircraft, the Boeing 747. Today Pratt and Whitney is one of Middletown’s largest employers.
