The Biggest Pyramid Scam of All
The Jonah Center for Earth and Art invites the public to an inspiring talk by Wesleyan Physics Professor Brian Stewart on the subject of the human “footprint” on earth. The multimedia presentation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, at 7 p.m., at First Church of Christ, Congregational, 190 Court Street in Middletown.
There has been much talk of unsustainable pyramid scams fleecing the public; some of them stared us in the face for years before they were "discovered." What other pyramid scams are hiding in plain view? Could civilization itself be unsustainable? Are we running out of oil and other natural resources? Is global warming pollution real? Are there simply too many of us? And if so, is there anything we can do as individuals to help create a sustainable future?
This presentation is offered as part of the Jonah Center’s collaboration with Middletown’s Earth Ministry group in Project 350.org to encourage participation in Climate Action Day on October 24. On that day, churches are asked to ring their church bells 350 times, beginning at 3:50 p.m. to awaken the public to the need to reduce carbon emissions so that the atmosphere’s CO2 level is reduced eventually to 350 parts per million.
