Eating the Statistics

Wesleyan biology and environmental science professor Barry Chernoff, hosted a dinner Sunday to celebrate the success of what has come to be known around town as "the rice show."

Of All the People in All the World, a performance by Stan's Cafe mounted at Wesleyan's Zilkha Gallery has been a huge success, drawing visitors at a record pace from Middletown and around Connecticut. Tuesday is the last day the show will be presented in Zilkha.

Chernoff, who originally wanted to host the dinner party last Sunday, in the midst of the Mardi Gras season, cooked a pot of authentic Louisiana gumbo, and I made a pot of jambalaya for the visitors from Birmingham England.

So you know, the rice Chernoff prepared for the gumbo equals the number of people who live in Crowley Louisiana, the rice capital of that state.
