Spring Programs for kids and teens are open for
registration at Oddfellows Playhouse Youth Theater in Middletown, including Hip
Hop Dance, a “Musical Medley” Mini-Production and “Nonviolent Leadership though
Acting and Art” -- a 7 week program geared toward middle schoolers that
explores Martin Luther King Jr’s Principles of Nonviolence through theater,
visual art and creative writing.
Oddfellows Classes are available to kids ages 1-20. Most
programs begin the week of March 28 and run for 7 weeks, ending on May 21. After-School
classes are offered Monday- Thursday and include theater, circus, Hip Hop Dance,
musical theater, music and visual arts. Additionally, students can register for
“Oddbridge” where they can take a bus directly from Middletown Public Schools
to the Playhouse and will be provided with a snack and supervised activities before
classes begin.
Circophony
Teen Circus offers circus training to all 14-20 year
olds, starting March 31.Circophony meets Tuesdays 6-9 PM. In addition to
fitness, acrobatics, and general circus skills, this Spring’s Training will
focus on Juggling and Contortion & Flexibility. Open to experienced circus
performers or those who are new. Program runs for 7 weeks.
In addition to the “Nonviolent Leadership” class,
student’s ages 11-15 can join “Intro to Tap and Creative Movement Class,” on
Saturdays from 12-1:30 PM. Students will learn the basics of Tap Dance and
explore other creative movement. No experience required.
On Saturdays, “Circrobatics” classes are offered to
kids ages 18 months to eight years old. These classes, taught by the Children’s
Circus of Middletown’s Teeny Tiny Circus Troupe director Megan Berritta,
combine circus, acrobatics, movement and games in a unique, age-appropriate
combination. Classes start March 28.
Oddfellows Playhouse is located at 128 Washington
Street in Middletown. All programs are tuition-based, but financial aid is
available for any family that requires it. No one is turned away for inability
to pay.
Registration is also open for the Children’s Circus of
Middletown, a 5 week day camp for ages 5-15 which runs June 29- July 31 and
culminates in a giant outdoor circus performance. The Children’s Circus is in
its 32nd season.
