Write this article for the Eye

The Wednesday Mayoral Forum was moderated by MHS students.
Two candidates, Ben Florsheim and Gene Thazhampallath, attended.

Did you go to a forum to hear one of the Mayoral candidates for the Sept. 10th Democratic Primary*?   Have any of the candidates come to your door?  Heard anything that helped you make a decision about who to support in this election?

This is an appeal to all of you to help write this article about what our candidates are saying out there and how it all sounds to you.

If you've had your vote influenced by something that a candidate has said, either at your door or at the forums or some other way, please share it below in the comments**.  It's been a busy week, and it's not possible to get face time with everyone, and your comment could help someone figure out who they want to support.

As the self-appointed editor for this post, I'll tell you what I'm looking for.  If you can, please share specifics about what you've heard from candidates, not just generalizations.  Supporters from all four primary candidates are welcome, and I'd also love to hear from people who are still not sure which way to go (tell us who's on your short list).  It's great if you sign your name, and it's okay if you don't.  Finally...tough questions are part of the job and necessary in open government - but nastiness is not.

*As I write this, there is still one more forum, on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm at Keigwin, where all primary candidates including Mary Bartolotta are expected to attend.

**Of course, the Eye still loves to publish longer, signed endorsement letters from voters.  Just email them to middletowneye@gmail.com.

Valeka Clarke was one of four people who spoke at the NEAT Forum on Tuesday - the other attendees were primary candidates Bill Russo, Ben Florsheim, and Gene Thazhampallath.
(note that Valeka is a write-in candidate for the Nov 5th Election, but not the Sept 10th Primary)

  1. At the high school, Gene was asked about policing, and he said he thought we should spend more time training police on how to deal with people than on how to deal with guns. I thought that was a good answer.
