Reproductive Rights Advocacy Group Damns Suzio and Praises Lesser

Two of our city's elected officials were cited by NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut for their efforts with respect to the protection of a reproductive rights, but for opposite reasons.

State Representative Matt Lesser was hailed as one of Connecticut's Pro-Choice Legislative Champions, on the basis of his work to introduce and promote legislation intended to protect our reproductive healthcare and rights. Lesser is currently running in the August 14th Democratic primary for the State Senate seat being vacated by Paul Doyle.

State Senator Len Suzio, in contrast, was one of a six who were labeled Greatest Anti-Choice Threats, for his support for legislation that was anti-choice or would have restricted access to reproductive healthcare. Suzio is running for re-election to the 13th Senate District.

  1. Does anyone really think that reproductive rights are at risk in CT? The more important question is whether Lesser has spent any time or energy on any policy that didn't cost CT taxpayers more money.

  2. Congratulations to Sen. Suzio, for a great recognition.
Lessor doesn't even have the support of the senator leaving that seat.

  3. Who is running against Suzio? I have a check ready for whoever that person is.

  4. Tree Fanatic, Mary Abrams is the endorsed democratic candidate for the 13th Senate District. We don't need a check, but we do need folks to make phone calls, knock doors, and help us spread the word for the August 14th primary. https://abramsforstatesenate.com

  5. Getting rid of Len Suzio would be great! Matt has done a wonderful job for Middletown.
    Vote for Matt and Mary.

  6. To be "fair and balanced", I listened to Len Suzio's town hall meeting last year when he attempted to explain his proposed bill on "reproductive rights". His bill focused on young girls under the age of 16. Logically speaking a child of this age can't get so much as an aspirin from a school nurse without parental consent, but currently a young girl (example he used was a 13 year old) could get an abortion without parental knowledge. I ask you, would you want your very young daughter to have an extremely invasive and dangerous medical procedure done on her without your knowledge or consent? As a side note, the proposed bill was to include a proviso that the young girl could elect, in lieu of a parent, to discuss her options with a family court judge. The bill did not deny the girl the right to the abortion. It merely required that the parent (or judge) be brought into the discussion with the girl before the procedure could take place. Seems like a COMMON SENSE approach to a highly charged and very sensitive subject that could save the life of the young girl and perhaps save the fetus as well.

BTW, I find Len Suzio to be an excellent representative who regularly communicates with his constituents (via email) on topics he is involved with at the State Capitol. Without exception, I have never heard from any other representatives except when they want to get reelected. I rather like a representative that keeps the voter "in the loop".

  7. I am glad Senator Suzio is looking out for those who have no voice of their own, the unborn.
One day my hope is late-term abortions are no longer and that abortions are not used as birth control

  8. I didn't know Senator Suzio wants to protect life by stopping wars and getting guns and violence out of our lives.

  9. Although the bar is not too high, Sen Suzio is one of the best politicians in Ct.
Our people in Washington are an embarassment.
Most in Hartford are the same. How can they say they represent their voters when they vote against what the majority wants. As an example the 10 million for the toll study. Does anyone at all want this waste of money to go through?
How about the early release of prisoners? We really need these convicts walking our streets.

  10. What the majority want? Is that a thing? 3,000,000 more Americans wanted Hillary Clinton to be our President instead of the guy we have now. That was a majority.

  11. Len Suzio is a hypocritical fraud, he sponsored legislation to restrict abortion yet votes against the bump stock ban. Has he ever answered the debate question as to whether he supported Donald Trump in the 2016 election? A real profile in courage.
