The third annual Summer Fling at Oddfellows Playhouse Youth
Theater in Middletown will be a Family Barn Dance featuring legendary Contra
Dance caller Billy Fischer. The event runs 5:15 to 8 pm on Saturday, July 14 at
the Playhouse, which is at 128 Washington Street in Middletown. This is a party that you won't want to miss!!
From 5:15 to 6 pm pizza from Mondo and Krust Restaurants in
Middletown and drinks will be for sale while live music is provided by AEIOU,
featuring Kalidasa Joseph Getter on woodwinds, Mick Bolduc on guitar, and Tim
Gaylord on percussion.
The dancing will start at 6 pm, and no experience is required. And, have no fear, the theater at Oddfellows is fully air-conditioned!
Bill Fischer has been calling dances for over thirty years,
starting out in New Haven, Connecticut with a contra dance series that has been
a fixture of the folk music and dance scene since 1976. In addition to contra
dances in and around the northeast, he has called at various dance camps
regionally and nationally. Bill is committed to fostering community through
dance, music and ritual.
Bill will be joined by Bill Walach on mandolin and Dave Howard
on guitar. They have performed together for over 30 years. Together they create
a cohesive, joyful sound that just makes you want to dance.
Oddfellows’ Family Barn Dance will feature easy dances clearly
taught for all ages and all levels of experience, and different styles of dance
-- with dancers in couples, lines and circles. Come with a group, or come
alone; in either case you will leave with a bunch of new friends!
This is a Fun- and Fund Raiser for Oddfellows Playhouse Youth
Theater. Dance till you drop, enjoy great music, and support scholarships for
young people to participate in the performing arts. General Admission tickets
for the Family Barn Dance start at $15, but patrons are encouraged to give more
to support the Playhouse’s programs for youth.
