Newly Elected Officials To Be Sworn In Tonight

The 8 officials elected to office in municipal elections will be sworn in during the biennial meeting of the Common Council, tonight at 7PM in Council Chamber, City Hall. As with the last swearing-in ceremony, the meeting will feature poetry and prayers.

After a reading from Susan Allison, Poet Laureate, and an invocation from Father Russell Kennedy, Pastor at St. Francis, Mayor Drew will administer the Oath of Office or Affirmation of Office.

This Council Meeting will end with a benediction given by the Reverend Dr. Edward C. Ford, Sr, of the Waterbury church Bread of Life Evangelistic Ministries

There will be light refreshments after the religious and government ceremonies are finished.

  2. Really, did you have that problem when you were sworn in six years ago? Sometimes I think you just like to complain for the sake of complaining about something.
    The President, congress, every elected official has someone give a benediction and close in a prayer. If you don't like it, then go to Washington and change the law.

    Let's be honest, your upset because you and your minions no longer have control over the BOE.

  5. It's not, but this is how the swearing in has gone on for decades, but I guess in this PC world we should change it so not to offend anyone.

  6. Our nation's founders thought it PC enough to put separation of church and state right up front in the first amendment with freedom of speech. We're getting closer and closer to a theocracy. Look how well that's working in the middle east.
