Arbor Day, Friday April 29

Middletown celebrates Arbor Day this Friday, April 29 at 2 pm. The celebration, including a
proclamation by Mayor Daniel Drew, will take place at the Wadsworth Mansion, 421 Wadsworth Street.

A flowering dogwood is being planted in memory of Willard McRae, who died earlier this year. Among his many contributions to the city, Willard served on the Long Hill Estate Authority and several of its committees.

In addition, the Urban Forestry Commission is planting 25 trees this month to help keep the city beautiful and its residents healthy. Additional trees may be planted in the fall, funds permitting.

This occasion marks the 26th year that Middletown has been named a "Tree City USA" by the Arbor Day Foundation. In order to earn this designation, a city or town must have a tree commission, an ordinance regulating the care of its trees, and a tree budget equal to or greater than $2 per capita.

Donations toward the City's Tree Fund are welcome, and may be arranged through James Sipperly, Environmental Resource Specialist and staff to the Urban Forestry Commission, (860) 638-3500.
