On Sunday, March 20,
the fifth annual World Water Day Celebration will be held at the Middletown Russell
Library at 2:00 pm. The event is a curated water-themed art reception &
exhibit by Middletown Art Academy faculty and students that aims to celebrate,
educate and inspire. The reception will showcase visual and performance art.
World Water Day is
held annually on March 22nd and is celebrated around the world to generate
awareness of water related issues and advocate sustainable management of
freshwater resources.
Treats and spring
water will be served. This year, J-Cherry founder of Middletown Music
Festival and Radio Host "Voice of the City" 88.1 FM, will be a
special guest and performer. Alicea Charamut of the Connecticut River Watershed
Council will be special guest speaker.
During last year’s
Source to Sea Cleanup, 47 tons of trash were removed from in and around our
rivers by over 2,000 dedicated volunteers, keeping it from adding to the global
trash problem. “What better way to observe World Water Day than by celebrating
our rivers through art and supporting the 2,200+ volunteers who help keep our
rivers clean each year. CRWC is honored to be the benefactor of this event and
will continue working to grow and improve the annual Source to Sea Cleanup. By
working together, we can keep our rivers clean and beautiful,” said Alicea
Charamut of the Connecticut River Watershed Council.
“We are committed to continuing this event and
raising awareness of water and related development affecting the world,” said framer
and faculty member Dmitri D'Alessandro.
