Kris Allen – Alto and soprano saxophone
Frank Kozyra – Tenor saxophone
Matt Dwonszyk – Bass
Jonathan Barber – Drums
They will be playing original music from their upcoming release “Beloved” on Truth Revolution Records ( June 2016)
Kris Allen is a saxophonist, composer and educator, and member of the Truth Revolutions Recording Collective. He inherited a love of music from his mother, a church organist who gave him his first lessons on a tiny xylophone. At a young age, he displayed considerable gifting as a classical pianist, but it was jazz that truly won his heart at age 14 when a friend loaned him trumpeter Lee Morganʼs album “ The Gigolo.” Kris began to devote most of his spare time to listening to great jazz records and practicing the alto saxophone.
In 1999, Kris also began a career as an educator when he was hand picked by Jackie McLean to teach saxophone and ensembles at the Hartt school. Kris went on to hold positions at Trinity College, Southern Connecticut State University and the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts. He is presently the Lyell B.Clay Artist in Residence in Jazz at Williams College, a position he started in 2013. Kris has also been a teaching artist for the Litchfield Jazz Festival since 2001. Kris is a Vandoren Artist and plays Vandoren mouthpieces, reeds and ligatures exclusively.
