Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Andres Ayala and other officials shared a podium with Middletown students at Mercy High School on Tuesday. The event promoted National Teen Safe Driver Week, reminding teens, parents and communities that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers. National Teen Safe Driver week runs through Saturday (Oct. 18-24).
Ayala suggested that parents and teens set aside time this week to review the teen driving laws and draw up a safety agreement.
Several students from Mercy and one from Xavier High School, representing the agency’s Teen Advisory Board, joined Ayala and safety advocates to speak to a gym filled with students.
