The Middlesex United Way Young Leaders Society is hosting its 2nd annual "Stuff-a-Backpack" Back to School Supply Drive and Happy Hour Aug. 19 at the Mattabesett Canoe Club in Middletown.

This event is open to all young professionals and is hosted by the Middlesex United Way Young Leaders Society, which provides community involvement, personal development and networking for young professionals ages 21-40 who live or work in Middlesex County.

Hors d'oeuvres will be provided while supplies last, and cash bar will be available.

The event is free to attend. Guests are asked to bring new, unused school supplies, which will be donated to local schools to help students in need. Requested items include: gender-neutral backpacks, zip-up binders, 1-subject notebooks, composition books, 3-ring binders (1-, 2- and 3-inch), dividers, folders, blue and black pens, mechanical pencils, erasers, rulers, glue sticks, pencil boxes/pouches, crayons and highlighters.

Thank you to Liberty Bank and the Mattabesett Canoe Club for sponsoring this event.

Thank you to Broad Street Books and the Book Bower for holding school supply drives at their stores to contribute to this effort. Local business that wish to collect supplies at their location would be welcomed. Please contact Jennifer.sprague@middlesexunitedway.org for information.

  1. Glad to participate. I get nostalgic at this time of year about buying school supplies for little people eager for school to start.
